Parents meeting 9/28/26

Parents meeting 9/28/26. Please try to have one person per family to attend with your Scout. Scouts please wear your uniforms.
 
7pm-7:10pm: Set up flags and tables with chairs (as soon as the Yoga class leaves.

8:20pm-8:30pm: Closing Flags & Announcements.

Payments: outstanding payments for the June Claimjumper Campout, Summer Camp tshirts, ADK canoe trip.

What’s next?

October 3: work day for Nativity 9am-12pm. Service hours to those who attend. Paula’s Donuts will be served. Power washing, landscaping, painting oh my! Wear old clothes. The following scouts said they can help: Mr. Shotwell, Jackson, Gavin, Josh, Caden, Andrew, Daniel, Jase, Kenneth, Sean and Evan.

October 5: Citizenship in the Community merit badge night. Visit from Deputy County Executive will attend as a merit badge requirement.  Herkimer Campout money due tonight $75 per person.

October 12: no meeting due to holiday.

October 16-18: Herkimer KOA and Diamond Mines Campout. Tent camping. $75 per person. This includes food, campsite costs, the Geology Merit Badge and mining time on Saturday. It is 3 hour drive to get there. Making arrangements for enough drivers will be important. The following scouts said they would like to go: Mr. Dahlke, Lara, Andrew, Jill & Jase (arriving Saturday), Evan, Alex, Gavin, Caden, Josh, Daniel, Henry and Oliver. Please let me know if more Scouts/Parents want to attend. $75 payment is due no later than October 13th in order to attend.

Parents Meeting 9/28 and beyond

Troop 286,
Next Monday, September 28 is the parents meeting (previous email was a date typo). Scouts will attend with a family representative (parent/grandparent). Please let me know if you are unable to make.
I challenged the scouts to try to sell popcorn to 10 people via call/text/email by the 28th. Show Mrs Mayback your list of  10 people to be entered in a drawing for an Amazon Gift Card! Scouts have the challenge of selling $500 each to have the opportunity to attend the Electronics Campout Weekend in March. Popcorn sales continue until the end of October.

7pm-7:15pm: gathering activity are the Tenderfoot Physical Fitness Requirements. One mile run. Caden and Joshua please wear sneakers and gym clothes. Bring a filled water bottle. The Troop will cheer them on. Please try to be on time. Sunset is 7:15pm.

7:15pm-7:30pm: Set up flags for the opening and 4 tables with chairs

7:30pm-8:15pm: Patrol Corners
1.) Re-Assign Patrols
2.) Select a Patrol Leader & assistant
3.) Name Patrol, yell and flag design

8:20pm-8:30pm: Closing Flags & Announcements.

Meeting Plans 9/14 – First meeting

Troop 286,

7pm-7:15pm: gathering activity in the downstairs room – getting to know you (be prepared to state your name, age, school, scout rank and one fun thing you did this summer)

7:15pm-7:30pm: Set up flags for the opening

7:30pm-8:15pm:
1.) Read through and sign the Code of Conduct Policy.
2.) Vote for a new Senior Patrol Leader. Any scout that is at least First Class can run for Senior Patrol Leader. Please be prepared with a statement about why you are a good candidate for SPL.
3.) Leadership position assignments. Please remember that scouts that want to advance need leadership positions.

What’s next?

September 18-20: Our first campout of the new scout year is September, 18-20. We will be at Sycamore Reservation. 10676 Hammond Hill Rd, East Otto, NY 14729. It is $15 per person. It is tent camping. Please have dinner before or bring it on Friday. Drop off is 6pm later on Friday. Pick up is at 9am on Sunday morning. If you need gear for this trip let me know. Let us know if you can join us. We are collecting $15 on Monday.

June 29: planning meeting. Bring you ideas for next Scout Year Calendar! Ideas for: weekend camping, outmeetings, Big City Trip, Summer Camp locations,  Volunteer Opportunities. Wear Class B Shirt.
Summer Camp: July 12-17 at Camp Gorton. Get updated Med Forms. Tshirt $20 is due. Please see Mr. Dahlke’s prerequisites that are due before summer camp.
ADK Canoe Trip: August 6-9. A deposit of $130 is due June 22. This is the appropriate cost of the trip.

Other scouts who already have this merit badge can work on other partial merit badges or pre reqs for summer camp. Homework for June 8, please watch one of these films: Follow Me Boys (1966), 42 (2013), Lincoln (2012), Pay it Forward (2000), Zootopia (2016), Holes (2003), He Named me Malala (2015), Remember the Titans (2000), Dunkirk (2017), The Blindside (2009), Cars (2006), Facing the Giants (2006), Mr. Hollands Opus (1995), Hidden Figures (2016), The Boy Who Harnesses the Wind (2019), Dark Waters (2019), The Kite Rynner (2007). Watch the movie and write a short paragraph about what you learned from the movie about what it means to be a valuable and concerned member of the Community. You will read it aloud to the group June 8th. Then, Claimjumper preparations

June 8: after our regular meeting at 8:30pm we will be holding a short meeting about the Adirondack Canoe Trip in August. If you are interested in going on the trip for the first time, please stay for this meeting. 14 years of age and older is required for this trip.
June 19-21: Claimjumper Campout! Don Miller. Troop 286 is the host Troop. We are in the same campsite as last year. Adults are needed to help run this event.
June 22: Cameron George’s Eagle Court of Honor is at 7:30pm in the Dining Room. This is in lieu of a meeting. Full uniforms please.
